A SECOND FAMILY

Two years ago my parents moved to Poland, leaving all their family and friends back home in hopes of starting a new adventure in life. On the day they were leaving, I said a special prayer for them:

“God be the light for their path to Poland.
Jesus be the comforter for them along the way.
Holy Spirit be the motivator for them to help them reach their destination.
St Christopher keep them safe.
St Anthony help them find anything lost.
Holy Family be the family they need when they miss home.”

In the months following, I would continually pray to the Holy Family to help comfort my parents when they would miss home. I would also look to the holy family to help me trust in God’s plan for them while they were in Poland. While feeling lonely at home, I would also continue to pray to St. Joseph to help me meet my future spouse in hopes to find a start to what would be my second family.

Reading today’s gospel reminds me of not only the strength of Joseph but also the true power of the Holy Family. God answered my prayer of finding my new second family, and with Gods prayerful sense of humor, I found my future husband with the name Joseph. I have now prayed to St. Joseph and used his strength and faith in helping me prepare to be a step-mom and a wife.

In reflecting back where I was two years ago to now, the slow work of God through the Holy Family and Joseph has led me to where I am today in this Christmas season of being grateful and joyous.

How has the Holy Family been a part of your life during this Christmas season? Let us look to Joseph for strength and faith as we continue through this holy time.
