Position Title: Coordinator of the Magis Formation Network

Term: Initial term through October 31, 2027, with the possibility of continuing longer

Compensation: $75,000–$80,000 annually, commensurate with experience
Location: Hybrid - remote, home-based in California with frequent travel (no assigned office)
Must reside in California; Southern California strongly preferred
Remote work from home most days with frequent travel for meetings and events
Once-monthly in-person Christus Ministries meeting in Orange County
Required attendance at the following Magis Formation Network events:
o Magis Way Conference (November 6-8, 2026 - Oceanside, CA)
o Ignatian leadership retreat (May 21-23, 2027 - Los Altos, CA)
o Ignatian discernment retreat (October 20-24, 2027 - Los Altos, CA)
Two in-person regional networking gatherings per year
On-site presence at Christus Ministries young family events, including a summer 2027 family retreat
Occasional air travel and overnight stays for retreats, events and gatherings

About the Magis Formation Network
The Magis Formation Network grew out of a Jesuits West Province-wide listening and communal discernment process in which more than 500 young people, young families, and ministry leaders shared their deepest needs and hopes. This Network accompanies young people and young families to be fully known in Christ and community, formed together as disciples, and sent to love and serve God and others. It is led by Fr. Chris Chinh Nguyen, SJ.
About the Role
The Coordinator of the Magis Formation Network is a lay minister who divides the work week evenly between two areas: building the Magis Formation Network (approximately 50% of the role) and building young family ministry infrastructure at Christus Ministries (approximately 50% of the role).
On the Magis side, the Coordinator helps build a Formation Team, an Advisory Board, and a growing network of ministries serving young people across the Jesuits West Province. On the Christus side, the Coordinator helps form young families through the Young Family Team, Family Learning Communities, and a summer family retreat.
This position is for someone who is deeply relational, highly organized, and mission-driven. The right candidate will take initiative without being asked, manage many moving parts across both ministries without day-to-day direction, and bring genuine warmth and Ignatian sensibility to every partnership, event, and conversation.
Primary Responsibilities
Magis Formation Network (50%)
Manage administration for and attend the Network's three major Jesuit events: the Magis Way Conference and two Ignatian retreats
Coordinate promotion before and follow-up after each Magis event
Support two online Discernment Series (Discernment of Spirits and Discernment of God's Will)
Help organize regional events as needed
Build relationships with parishes, schools, and other ministries to learn their genuine needs, mainly online and through two in-person regional gatherings each year
Coordinate Ignatian networking with affiliates, schools, and Jesuit ministries across the Province
Strengthen collaboration among existing ministries by fostering communication, alignment, and partnership, while making known and supporting the good work already being done
Coordinate Magis World Youth Day 2027 participation with partner ministries, including managing sign-ups and scheduling meetings
Report the fruits of the Speak Up listening and discernment process to everyone who took part
Support the development of an article on the Speak Up initiative for Jesuit and Catholic publications
Keep the Network's documents, diagrams, promotional materials, and online presence up to date
Oversee video, social media content, and storyboards for both the Magis Formation Network and Christus Ministries, working with outside video and web contractors
Support the development of an online hub connecting young adults to Jesuit ministries across the Province
Work with the Magis Formation Network Leadership to form and gather the Advisory Board and the Formation Team
Help build the infrastructure for lay coordination alongside a full-time Jesuit in the future
Christus Ministries Young Family Ministry (50%)
Help organize and support the Young Family Team
Promote the Marriage Renewal Workshop and follow up with participants
Coordinate resource development for the Family Learning Communities, along with other resources for young adults and service
Set up and organize the 2027 Emotional Agility Learning Communities
Help organize the summer 2027 family retreat, including promotion beforehand and follow-up afterward
Lead family focus groups to better understand the needs of young families
Attend and support family ministry events
Provide general administrative support
Participate in weekly Christus Ministries team meetings and communal discernment as needed
Attend monthly in-person all-team meetings (Orange County)
Contribute to organizational mission and culture as a full member of the Christus team

Required Qualifications
Faith Requirement: This position requires a practicing Catholic with a sincere commitment to the mission and values of Christus Ministries, a Catholic religious organization. This requirement is consistent with California law applicable to religious organizations (CA Gov. Code § 12926(d)).
Demonstrated commitment to the Catholic faith and its teachings
Working knowledge of Ignatian spirituality, such as the Spiritual Exercises, the Examen, and discernment of spirits
Strong relational and collaborative skills, with the ability to build trust across diverse ministries and organizations
Proven ability to take initiative, manage multiple projects and events simultaneously, and follow through on details independently
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Ability to travel regularly, including car travel, air travel and overnight stays
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of experience in ministry, ideally with young adults or young families
Experience in or with Jesuit ministries (parishes, schools, retreat centers, or other apostolates)
Degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, or a related field
Experience planning events, conferences, or retreats
Experience with social media, video storytelling, or digital content coordination
Experience facilitating faith-sharing, retreats, or spiritual formation programs
